Christians, Stop Acting Like Victims

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
Romans 8:16-18

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Matthew 5:10-12

Christians in the U.S., stop acting like victims. Jesus told us the world would hate us because we identify with Him, and why shouldn’t they?

Because we have freedom of speech and religion in the U.S.?

Because we’re “winsome”?

Because we don’t use the hellfire and brimstone tactics of preachers of old?

Americans, I believe it is right and good to argue respectfully and fight honorably to preserve the values and freedoms so many have given their lives to provide for us.

But can we really be shocked and surprised when fallen people who are not at peace with God strive with God by striving with His children?

And that is who we are. We are children of God and citizens of Heaven before we are citizens of any earthly kingdom or democracy.

So please stop whining about how people are being mean and telling you that you can’t say this and can’t have this monument put up there and can’t tell schoolchildren about that.

Rejoice! Rejoice that you are counted worthy to identify in the sufferings of our Lord and Savior!
And I’m not talking about an obnoxious and fake, “Thank you for telling me to shut up about Jesus. God bless you,” kind of rejoicing.

I’m talking about rejoicing in the Lord because your suffering helps you to understand His suffering more and draws you closer to Him.

I’m talking about rejoicing that you now have the opportunity, after over 200 years of relative ease and laziness for the Christian church in America, to learn what it means to turn the other cheek!
I will be the first to admit that I don’t want to be full-out persecuted, tortured and murdered for my faith, as are so many of our brothers and sisters. And who knows what is in store?

But there is power in the name of Jesus, and in His name, we have power. People who are not yet at peace with God are not going to like the name of Jesus for that reason. And they are always going to want us to shut up, and the way they try to make us stop will look different over time and place.

Don’t be quiet, but please don’t be a martyr. You are representing Christ, the silent Lamb of God.
And why are we talking about Him anyway? To promote ourselves and how wonderful we are for believing in Him?

No! You wouldn’t have chosen Him, either, if it was completely up to you. But He pursued you unto death and won your heart with His love, and that is the Jesus we need to show to our world!
